Emerging Leaders Institute: Investing in the Future of Commercial Real Estate

Building the Next Generation of High-Impact Leaders in Commercial Real Estate

The Future of CRE Leadership Starts Now.

Today, we have an opportunity to ensure long-term industry growth, but only if we proactively create and cultivate a robust pipeline of future-ready leaders -- leaders who are equipped and eager to take on the new challenges of the post-2020 workplace with innovation, inclusion, and inspiration.

Companies that invest in leadership development now will shape not only their own success but also the future of the industry.

The Leadership Gap in Commercial Real Estate: A Call to Action

To secure the future of commercial real estate, the industry must confront three urgent leadership challenges: a retirement cliff, a widening skills gap, and a broken leadership pipeline. Addressing these gaps is critical for sustained growth and innovation."
01

An Impending Retirement Cliff

40% of today’s CRE workforce—including 59% of senior executives—will retire within the next decade. Without a plan to transfer leadership knowledge and develop rising talent, companies risk leadership gaps that could stall growth, disrupt client relationships, and weaken business stability.

Investing now in future leaders ensures long-term business success and sustained industry innovation.

02

A Growing Skills Gap

CRE companies are investing in AI, data, and technology at record rates, yet many report that a lack of leadership support (35%) and insufficient skills (22%) are preventing successful adoption. Without future-ready leadership, these technology investments will fall flat.

Companies that equip their leaders with data-driven decision-making, tech fluency, and adaptability will drive innovation and outperform competitors.
03

A Leadership Pipeline Out of Sync with the Market

Your clients are evolving—is your leadership team keeping pace? As tenant and investor demographics shift, leadership teams that fail to adapt risk losing market relevance. Real estate ranks last among 18 industries in leadership mobility for women, leading to missed opportunities in talent and innovation.

Companies that build a diverse, forward-thinking leadership pipeline will be the ones shaping the future of CRE.

Our Story

Meet Founder, Melina Cordero

I launched P20 Workplace in 2021, leaving behind a senior executive role in commercial real estate to address what I recognized as a pressing need to help organizations adapt to the new needs of the post-2020 world and workforce.

Since 2020, nearly everything we knew about how, where, when, and why we work has changed. To build companies and industries ready to thrive far into the future, the old rules don’t apply, and neither do the old tools.

I believe great leadership is at the heart of our industries’ success, and I’m committed to helping organizations cultivate and sustain the skills to lead inclusively, innovatively, and with confidence.

I’m a proudly open book; you can read more about my journey and mission here.
